FANTASY FOOTBALL, New York, October 23
BY: Andrew Wroblewski
I got knocked down, but boy did I get up again.
Last week my start ’ems outscored my sit ’ems 74-46 in ESPN standard scoring. WR Randall Cobb had an enormous day to make himself the No. 4 wide receiver of the week and the Buffalo Bills found themselves in the same position as the No. 4 defense of the week.
Some great calls last week, so let’s keep it up this week:
QB Tony Romo (DAL) vs WAS
He’s America’s quarterback. OK, not really, but QB Tony Romo is my start of the week since he’s thrown for at least 175+ yards and 1 TD in every game this season and Washington’s defense has been susceptible to big games from opposing quarterbacks.
WR Doug Baldwin (SEA) at CAR
With WR Percy Harvin out of the picture, WR Doug Baldwin is now a top playmaker in Seattle’s offense. He exploded last week against St. Louis and I expect the same this week.
RB Ben Tate (CLE) vs OAK
After a rough week against Jacksonville, RB Ben Tate will be dying to bounce back as the Browns take on Oakland – one of the worst run defenses in the league. I expect 100+ yards and a TD.
TE Jordan Reed (WAS) at DAL
Slowly coming back from injury, this week will be TE Jordan Reed’s welcoming party as he’ll explode against a Dallas defense that’s allowed 7 TDs and 541 yards to tight ends through seven games.
K Adam Vinatieri (IND) at PIT
The man, the legend: K Adam Vinatieri. Pittsburgh has yet to allow under 8 points this season to an opposing kicker and I don’t see that changing this week.
D/ST Eagles (PHI) at ARI
Defense and special teams have been tough to call this year, but, when in doubt, go with your gut. The Eagles have been the top fantasy unit this season and face a Cardinals offense that doesn’t move the ball well.
QB Jay Cutler (CHI) at NE
A rough week – that’s what QB Jay Cutler had. Between an interception and lost fumble and WR Brandon Marshall allegedly yelling at him in the locker room after last week’s game against Miami, I think it’s safe to say Cutler’s spirit is low. A trip to New England won’t help get it up.
WR Torrey Smith (BAL) at CIN
Over the last few weeks, WR Torrey Smith has returned to form. He’s been putting up reliable fantasy numbers, but against middling defenses. Against Cincinnati’s tough secondary, Smith will be quiet.
RB Giovani Bernard (CIN) vs BAL
I believe RB Giovani Bernard is hurting. After a toe injury in week 6 and a collarbone injury in week 7, the Bengals running back looked hobbled last week against Indianapolis. This week he’ll face another top-10 run defense – and they’re even better than the Colts.
TE Jimmy Graham (NO) vs GB
A decoy – that’s what TE Jimmy Graham was last week against the Lions. This week, the tough pass defenses keep on coming as Green Bay comes to town, and Graham will remain noticeably absent.
K Nick Folk (NYJ) vs BUF
After putting up 14 points last week, K Nick Folk will recess this week against the Bills – in typical New York Jets’ fashion.
D/ST Buccaneers (TB) vs MIN
As I mentioned earlier, defense and special teams have been nearly impossible to call this year and that’s why plenty of folks are jumping on the Tampa Bay bandwagon this week. But don’t be fooled; the Bucs have yet to put up more than 6 points this season, and that won’t change this week.
