Rita Liotta

Rita Liotta, a resident of Centerport and Brooklyn, N.Y. native, died Dec. 13. She was 83.

She is survived by her husband, Salvatore; children, Victoria, Joseph and his wife Karen, and Lisa; sisters, Marie Pisani and Theresa Tomasulo; and grandchildren, Steven, Adam and Jordan.

Arrangements were made by Nolan & Taylor-Howe Funeral Home in Northport on Wednesday. Wakes continue today from 2-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. A funeral Mass is scheduled for Friday at 10 a.m. at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Church in Centerport with a burial to follow at St. Philip Neri Cemetery in East Northport.

Memorial contributions in her memory can be made to the Town of Huntington Adult Day Care, payable to Human Services Institute – mail to: Adult Day Care Supervisor, 423 Park Avenue, Huntington, NY 11743. Contributions can also be made to VNS Hospice of Suffolk at 505 Main St. in Northport, NY 11768.

Patricia Flood

Patricia A. Flood (nee Cudney), a former resident of East Northport, died Dec. 10. She was 81.

Born in Tarrytown, N.Y., she was a retired school nurse at Ocean Avenue School in Northport and a resident of Smithtown.

She is survived by her children, Timothy P. Flood, Matthew B. Flood and his wife Sherill, Meg Flood, and David J. Flood and his wife Mary; sister, Mary Ceccolini; and ten grandchildren and great-grandson. She was predeceased by her husband, James E. Flood, and her son of the same name, James E. Flood.

Arrangements were made by Nolan & Taylor Howe Funeral Home in Northport on Sunday. A funeral Mass was held on Monday at St. Patrick’s Church in Smithtown. An interment was later held at Queen of All Saints Cemetery in Central Islip.

Memorial contributions in her memory can be made to St. Patrick’s Parish Outreach at 280 East Main Street, Smithtown, NY 11787; or V.N.S. & Hospice of Suffolk at 505 Main Street, Northport, NY 11768.

Dolores Albuquerque

Dolores Kreszenzia Niedermeir Albuquerque, a resident of Huntington, died Dec. 10. She was 81.

Born in Bronx, N.Y., she went on to live in Augsburg, Germany for several years before returning to the United States when she entered kindergarten. From there, she graduated with honors from Andrew Jackson High School in Queens, N.Y. in 1951. She met her husband, Manuel Albuquerque, at a YMCA dance in early 1953 and the two were married that year on Sept. 8. The couple had three children, two grandchildren and 17 Weimaraner puppies together and celebrated their 50th anniversary together in 2003.

Her family said she will be remembered for the love she showed them and how she always put them first – “steadfastly” caring for and helping anyone and everyone she could. She was also a gifted cook who loved to prepare elaborate meals for her family and friends, while also preparing countless blankets and scarves thanks to her skills with crochet needles.

She is survived by her children, Janis Margaret and her husband Michael D. Fay, Lynne Veronika, and Carl Sylvestre and his wife Barbara; and her granddaughters Erin Veronika and Allison Veronika Limberg. She was predeceased by her husband and by her mother, Veronika.

Arrangements were made by A.L. Jacobsen Funeral Home in Huntington Station on Dec. 14. A church service followed the next day at St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church along with a burial at the Huntington Rural Cemetery.

Memorial contributions in her name can be made to the American Cancer Society.

Robert Hertzel

Robert W. Hertzel, a resident of Centerport, died Dec. 11. He was 96.

Born in the Bronx, N.Y., he was the beloved husband of his late wives Ethel and Phyllis.

He is survived by his children, Claudia Curtis and Joan and her husband Patrick Mahoney, eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Arrangements were made by M.A. Connell Funeral Home in Huntington Station on Dec. 14. A funeral service was held at Abiding Presence Lutheran Church in Fort Salonga.

Memorial contributions in his name can be made to VNS Hospice of Suffolk at 505 Main Street, Northport, N.Y., 11768.
