HUNTINGTON STATION, New York, May 7
BY: Andrew Wroblewski
Parents, coaches, officials and athletes made up the thousands of those in attendance on Sunday as Walt Whitman High School hosted the annual Special Olympics New York (SONY) Spring Games North.
The day consists of track and field and tennis events and was made possible by hundreds of volunteers – which were assembled by Joe Arcuri, a junior varsity softball coach for Whitman.
This was the first time Whitman played host to the Special Olympics games, which had participation from intellectually disabled athletes ages 6 and up hailing from all over Long Island.
