Stimson Squad Undefeated In Second-Straight Season

HUNTINGTON STATION, New York, June 11

The wins, accolades and records are just background noise to Andrea Orlando, coach of the Stimson Middle School softball team. Though Orlando has coached her squads of young Wildcats to two consecutive undefeated seasons – and a 40-1 record in the last four years – the coach doesn’t focus on that.

All that matters to Orlando is her players.

Barbara Tripi was one of the Stimson Wildcats power hitters this season, coach Andrea Orlando said.

The Half Hollow Hills High School West softball team had its season come to an end late last month with a 12-1 playoff loss to Sachem East.

Yet, while the game ultimately eliminated the Colts, it’s not the game that defines them as a team, head coach Bryan Dugan said.

“Three’s a charm.”

Last week, as the Colts of Half Hollow Hills High School West’s boys tennis team entered their third Suffolk championship match in just as many years, that’s the sentiment the boys latched on to, head coach Kim Lagendorfer said. Not only was it the team’s third opportunity for a Suffolk championship, but it was the third time they had the opportunity to earn it by trouncing their biggest rivals: the Thunderbirds of High School East.

The third try was the charm: the Colts won the 2014-2105 Suffolk championship, 5-2.

After Playoff Defeat, Whitman Sends Off Seniors

Teams can be built upon youth – as the 2015 Wildcats boys lacrosse team was – but most teams are defined by the veteran leadership brought to the table by seniors.

Helping Walt Whitman claim its second-straight playoff berth, those seniors had their final season as Wildcats come to an end on May 15 after a 16-9 defeat at the hands of Connetquot.

Knights Can’t Overcome Surging Wildcats

ELWOOD, New York, May 21

Occasionally, in the game of baseball, one team gets hot while another goes cold.

That was the case on Tuesday as the Knights of John Glenn High School welcomed the Wildcats of Shoreham-Wading River for the rubber game of a best-of-three series that decided which of the two teams would advance to the 2015 Suffolk Class A finals.

With careful pitching and timely hitting, the fifth-seeded Wildcats defeated top-seeded John Glenn, 5-1.

Following a 5-1 loss to Shoreham-Wading River on Tuesday, the John Glenn Knights meet for one final time this season as they were eliminated from the Suffolk Class A playoffs.
